At the center of the enchanting rolling fields, lived a young shepherd. His being was unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His main role was essentially to care for his flock of rams.

Their soft bleating and the rustling of the breezes across the single tree on the peak were his only companions. Day in day, guarding his responsibilities inculcated in him a notion of quiet fulfillment.

However, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would pine for fellowship. In one such instance because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty plot.

Narratives of wild beasts hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the hamlet. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.

One afternoon he dashed into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw no wolf.

The boy laughed at the dilemma on their faces. This trick continued for website a couple of more days. But, one noon, a real wolf did come to prey the flock. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of crying wolf.

The story of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once broken, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was in the past.
